Preschool - KINDERGARTEN

About Us…

For more than 50 years, St. Luke’s School has provided a reputable, dynamic program for Federal Way families.

We aim to partner with parents to provide a nurturing environment where children are supported and encouraged to reach their potential physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.

Childcare for PS - PK programs and Extended Care for Kindergarten through 5th Grade.

PRESCHOOL

Age 3 by August 31 | Tuesday/Thursday | 9AM - 12PM

  • Independent toileting skills
    Able to verbally express desires and needs
    Able to separate from parents
    Able to follow simple directions
    Able to attend to tasks for 10 minutes

  • Bible: Chapel, Bible stories, Christian songs, prayers and devotions
    Language Arts: Recognition of letters, sounds, and rhyming; spell and formulate letters in their name
    Math: Recognition of numbers 1-10; shapes and patterns
    Science/Social Studies: Discovery and exploration of the world including animals, nature, customs and cultures
    Art/Music: Child/Teacher guided art using various mediums; range of songs, rhymes, instruments and special programs
    Gross/Fine Motor Skills: Assembling puzzles, coloring, scissor use, outdoor playtime to develop/strengthen running, jumping, climbing, and throwing a ball. In addition, students will have organized movement activities in the gym.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Age 4 by August 31 | Tuesday - Thursday | 9AM - 1PM

    Able to follow simple 1 and 2 step directions
    Able to attend to tasks for 10 minutes

  • Bible: Chapel, Bible stories, Christian songs, prayers and devotions
    Language Arts: Recognition of alphabet by name, sound and phonemic awareness; communication skills via social interaction, following directions, listening to stories and singing songs
    Math: Exposure to numbers 1-100, counting to 100, writing/number values for 1-20; introduction to geometric shapes, patterning and sequencing; size and position concepts
    Science/Social Studies: Discovery and exploration of the world including weather, plants, animals, etc.
    Art/Music: Self-expression using various art mediums; special programs to share child’s musical talent
    Gross/Fine Motor Skills: Assembling puzzles, painting, scissor use, manipulatives, outdoor playtime to develop/strengthen running, climbing, and skipping. In addition, students will have organized movement activities in the gym.

S.T.E.A.M.

Age 4 by August 31 | Friday | 9:00AM - 12:00PM

  • Science: Fun, silly experiments in a safe environment with discussion and conclusion on the experiment topic

    Technology: Use of tools like pencils, rulers, magnifying glasses and microscopes

    Engineering: Innovative activities involving problems and testing solutions

    Art: Self-expression through art mediums, drama, and music

    Math: Games and activities introduce math topics, incorporating numbers, patterns, shapes, and organizational skills

KINDERGARTEN

Age 5 by August 31 | Monday - Friday | 9:00AM - 3PM

  • Ability to take care of personal needs
    Able to verbally express desires and needs
    Able to separate from parents
    Able to follow directions
    Able to attend to “tasks” for 10 minutes
    Able to use crayons and scissors
    Able to work independently, with peers and in a group setting
    Able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of numbers and letters
    One year of preschool experience recommended

  • Bible: Chapel, Bible stories, Christian songs, prayers and devotions
    Language Arts: Recognition of alphabet by name and sound; rhyming; sight words; phonics instruction, reading comprehension; a variety of writing experiences
    Math: Foundational skills relating to number concepts, measurement, geometry, data/graphing, patterning/sorting, simple addition/subtraction
    Science/Social Studies: Topical units, STEM projects and experiments, field trips to emphasize scientific and social exploration of the world
    Art/Music: Art concepts utilizing colors, lines, shapes and different medias; singing, playing instruments and movement to encourage musical expression
    Gross/Fine Motor Skills: Development of fine motor skills with an emphasis on using daily utensils; hopping, skipping, galloping, and ball skills; PE twice per week.
